I started with my initial sketch is much wider out. after colouring I decide the image looks too busy and pull the image in to focus on the face.
Changed the layout, pulling in the drawing to focus more on the face. I feel like the overall composition looks better this way. It gives it a triangular shape making the composition more stable than it was before. At this point I started adding in the base colours I wanted.
Continued by adding more shadow to give depth to the features.
Moved the face "arrows"/face paint to make the face look wider and fuller. Much less flat.
I feel like with constant practice my blending of colours is getting better. I work by having the canvas at 100% (the scale it would be at full sized) and with a low opacity brush. Putting two colours together this way produces new "in between" colours, I colour drop these new colours and paint in layers to blend colours together.
softening eyes by detailing around them and filling in the eyebrows.
Continuing to paint up the face and lips making the face look softer and less angular.
Finished detailing the eyes. Added red to the eyelashes to tie in with the colour scheme of the rest of the face and harmonize the drawing.
