I forgot to take process shots of this painting but there really aren't many layers to it so you can really see on the finished piece how it all came together. To improve my rendering technique, on this piece I tried to focus more on layout. Making the piece really stand out. A lot of my pieces so far have been really dark so I wanted to make one that was a lot brighter. Inspired by my research into Ross Trans paintings having a contrasting background.
I tried to tie the whole image together using the colour pink in the background, text, flowers and make up.
I made the eyes stand out by adding a pop of blue to the eyelashes which is the contrasting colour to red (similar to pink). I added a bit of red into the eye also to make this effect more obvious.
Using the colour dodge tool I also learnt from Ross, I added highlight to the face, mainly on the nose (the most protruding part) and it gave this really nice yellow highlight which brings some really great focus to the center of the face.
I kept the hair really dark, darker than Rey's hair is in the movie to bring about that dark/light contrast the painting really needed.
Composition was also guided by golden ratio.
