Continuing the Harry Potter Sketch

Continuing the Harry Potter pencil drawing alongside my Frozen drawing because I really enjoy it and think it's important to practice both traditional and digital drawing skills/techniques. As well as using the rule of thirds, I'm also working in some triangular composition so the drawing doesn't look too top heavy due to the way I've positioned Harry and Ron.

Triangles are a great way of grouping together three points of a photograph and organizing them to portray a certain feeling such as stability, which is what I'm going for her, because of the trio's friendship. Having the base of the triangle at the bottom, with the apex at the top, makes the triangle appear very stable, much like a pyramid – this is often found in architectural drawings or photography. See below.

I'm balancing the "weight" of the to boys in the image by making the scarf around Hermione's neck really big and decorative. Almost like a border, so the base of the image is larger than the top.
